Learning outcome/s | This course focuses on developing the English skills students need for their academic development so that they can approach their university studies with more confidence and a greater chance of success.
By the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to:
1. Use different learning strategies to enhance their English ability in reading, listening, and speaking
2. Use Harvard Referencing Style for their research writing
3. Develop and practice skills in referencing, quoting, paraphrasing and avoiding plagiarism.
4. Identify good academic writing practices and adopt such practices to maintain academic honesty and avoid plagiarism during the writing process
5. Analyze the structure of a range of written texts to use academic and professional styles of writing
6. Interpret, summarize and critique academic texts
7. Gather, evaluate and synthesize information from different academic sources
8. Analyze academic texts to assess the relevancy of research writing both within and outside their own field;
9. Understand paragraph writing process, practice different rhetorical modes, and review grammar and sentence patterns
10.Use the correct vocabulary and grammar in their academic writing

INTRODUCTION | ||||||
This course focuses on overall improvement of students’ skills in three things- learning English, avoiding plagiarism and also academic writing. It aims to improve student’s ability to perform in various tasks on high education programme. The importance of maintaining academic honesty and of avoiding plagiarism is emphasised throughout the process of producing written work.
Students are also taught the necessary grammar and vocabulary throughout the course for written academic communication.

Approach (Reasons For Learning):
Communicative and Interactive teaching methods with various learning activities such as: lecture, class activities, group discussion, video, exercises and individual assessments flexibly operated by the lecturer. By the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to:
