Mid-Term Take Home Case Analysis Assignment
For the midterm case analysis, you are tasked with applying the concepts and tools of strategic
management that you acquired in class up to this point to the analysis of a case. In your written
analysis you should utilize the relevant topics, concepts, and tools of strategic analysis that we
covered in the class to analyze all the information and data provided in the case to address the
case questions. Please be sure to refrain from summarizing the case and from describing,
discussing, researching etc. ‘what really happened’ (please also review the “Tips on preparing
for case analysis discussions” that I provided as an appendix to the syllabus prior to completing
and writing up your case analysis).
Your case analysis paper has to be consistent with the following guidelines and need to be
submitted to moodle as one Microsoft word document (*.doc or *.xdoc). The body of your written
analysis should be 4-5 pages (may not exceed 5 pages); any graphs, tables, etc. that you wish to
include to support your analyses and conclusions may be included as appendices that do not count
towards the page limit for the body of the paper (2 pages maximum). Text should be formatted
double spaced with 12 point Times New Roman and 1″ margins all around; refrain from using
unusual fonts and/or altering margins, paragraph spacing, spacing between characters, etc. to get
around page limits or try to make your work look longer or shorter than it is!
If you consult any sources while preparing this analysis other than the textbook, you need to
document these in a reference section. Failure to adequately cite any such sources may constitute
a violation of the University statement of student conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
Every written product or presentation you produce, now and in the future, will be judged both on
its content and on its appearance. Thus, both content and appearance (including spelling,
punctuation, grammar, and overall appearance) of your output will reflect directly on you as a
professional and will influence the effectiveness of your presentation (and your grade). The
analysis you submit should be of the quality that you would be willing to submit to a paying client
who asked for your analysis.
If your writing needs improvement, consider using mentoring services offered by the CxC program
(for information, see https://www.lsu.edu/academicaffairs/cxc/writing.php).
Also, when submitting the paper electronically, please name the file with your last name and first
name initial in the following format: “GreckhamerT_FinalCase” . The paper must be submitted
to moodle by the deadline, i.e., Wednesday, October 14, 8:00pm. Submissions received after
this due date will not receive credit.
The Case

2. Evaluate the attractiveness of the Chinese fireworks industry by applying Porter’s Five
Forces model.
3. Is the fireworks industry in decline or is it an industry still worth being in for the long run?
4. If you were Jerry Yu, and decided to make the investment, what strategy would you pursue to
