Description
Provide a brief background about the COVID-19 crisis.
Provide an overview and explanation of Ohio’s stay-in-place order. Please look at only one state.
Outline two arguments:
How the stay-in-place order is constitutional.
How the stay-in-place order is unconstitutional (in some aspect of it) and provide a good overview of the Constitution it violates (for example, the First Amendment).
You have to make both arguments. You cannot argue that it is completely constitutional or completely unconstitutional.
State your opinion on the issue and support your opinion with logical reasoning.
The paper needs to be submitted as a Google doc. I really don’t want PDFs.
The paper has to be MLA
The paper needs to be double spaced,
The paper needs to have the following as separate pages:
Title page
Even if you are following MLA, I want the paper to have a title page. I understand MLA doesn’t require a title page, but I do. Simply take the information that you would put in the upper-left hand corner of the first page and put that on your title page.)
Please don’t use any fancy formatting or graphics for the title page. Use the same style and font as the rest of the paper. I prefer Times New Roman, 12-point font.
References or works cited page.
Every item cited in the essay needs to be listed on the references page or works cited page.
And every item listed on your references or works cited page needs to be cited within the text of the essay.
Font.
As noted above, I prefer 12-point, Times New Roman font.
Word count:
1,200 words in length. The word count does not include the following:
Title page
References or works cited page
Margins should be 1-inch, all the way around.The minimum number of required references is 5.
References that you will likely use and are (of course) free to use but do not count toward the 5 required references and should be listed on your references page if you use them:
The United States Constitution
Supreme Court cases or any court cases
Any U.S. Statutes or U.S. RegulationsIn other words, the items listed above are certainly legitimate references. It’s simply the case they don’t get to count toward your 5.For me, good sources for essays in this class fall into three categories and are defined as the following:
Category 1 (highest quality)
Peer-reviewed journals;
Books (but not any textbook);
Category 2 (acceptable but lower quality): Traditional news magazines such as The Economist, Newsweek, or Time;, Traditional newspapers such as The New York Times or The Washington Post, Articles or data at Pew Research or Gallup.
Category 3: Websites that are generally viewed as somewhat ideologically driven but not necessarily lower in quality than category 2):
CNN, Fox News, MSNBCFor me, the following are considered bad or unacceptable sources, and should not be used: About.com, Blogs, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias (except as approved by me; you have to send me an email and get my permission), Essays.com, Howstuffworks.com, Quora, Social media including but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Textbooks (including the one for this class), Think tank reports (unless approved by me); think tanks include the following: Brookings Institution, Cato Institute, Heritage Foundation, Wikipedia, Yahoo!
