Description
U.S. Neoclassical Architecture
Focusing on the period and styles covered by this unit, identify a particular visual work of art that inspires you, not just visually but intellectually. You may choose an artist and work discussed in your readings and video, but you are not limited to these options. Briefly research the background of the artist (the artist’s social and cultural life, the artist’s influences, etc., if applicable) and the work itself. Your post should be as original as possible.
How does the piece you chose express the features of its style movement or period? Be sure to include your thoughts on what you feel was a primary influence for the artist in developing the piece.
Try to describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate the chosen artwork to the best of your abilities, using knowledge you have acquired throughout this week, and using WRITING AN ART CRITIQUE and VISUAL ANALYSIS GUIDELINES documents provided under Module 2. Ensure that your choice was created in the time frames identified here.
Respond to classmates’ posts that have focused on different works of art than the one you chose. Compare your chosen work with theirs. You have to respond to at least two of your peers for a full credit. All your posts should be as substantive and substantial as possible.
For a full credit: Initial post (at least 200 words in length) has to be submitted by Thursday evening, or no later than on Friday evening. You have to respond to at least two of your peers and me (if you have been asked a question) with substantive and substantial posts (100-200 words) by Sunday evening.
Include images and used sources.

The architecture that I chose for American Neoclassicism is a famous and well-known architecture, it is called the White House. George Washington, the first president chose the site in 1791 and the cornerstone was laid in 1792 for the White House(The White House). Many renovations were made to the White House. The White House now is a rectangle shape with four-column and a triangle top roof in the front. The features of the American Neoclassicism were the remaining Roman and Greek style and their political styles. Rome and Greek architecture style influenced the White House, in which the four columns represent justice and liberty. Inside of the White House is American politics, which was modeled on Greek and Roman ideals. For example, the founding father of the United States created room for debate, changed laws, built a system to limit tyranny, and a system that power was held by many (PRESSBOOKS). Those ideas were written in the U.S. Constitution, which America is using it until today. The architecture implies the Rome and Greek architecture style and the political ideas were modeled Rome and Greek ideals, this is the White House, which is in American Neoclassicism style.

The Lincoln Memorial was designed by American architect Henry Bacon. It is located on a man-made high ground at the end of Moore Boulevard. It covers an area of 2,200 square meters and is opposite the Washington Monument. The memorial hall absorbed the traditional methods of ancient Greek temples, surrounded by 36 marble Doric pillars, symbolizing the 36 states of the United States during the Lincoln period. Although the plane resembles an ancient Greek temple, it does not have the mountain flowers of the usual Greek temples, but a roof layer with a tufted in, placed on top of the classical column. The interior of the memorial hall is divided into a main hall and two side halls with columns. The walls in the side halls are painted with murals representing Lincoln’s most significant achievements and important events in his life. The climax of the entire memorial hall is the Lincoln statue in the center of the main hall opposite the entrance. Under the guidance of the vertical sequence from the entrance to the statue, people will feel the solemnity of the atmosphere. Later, people will gradually see the serious Lincoln statue under the sunlight that diffuses into the room. The layout of the Lincoln statue and the ingenious sequence of vertical and horizontal directions have formed a solemn atmosphere. This is an outstanding design of this memorial building.
