Description
Here are the instructions, I have also attached something I wrote in relation to the topic as well as a sample format.
An annotated bibliography is a formal presentation of the research that you are doing in preparation for your research paper. You will use these sources when you write your research paper.
Your annotated bibliography should include a minimum of 10 sources. Four (4) should be “scholarly” (i.e. peer-reviewed journal articles and/or books published by academic presses. The remaining four can be “popular” but well-written sources, say articles from reputable print or online publications, such as the The New Yorker. You may use up to two (2) sources that fall into the “other” category—perhaps documentary films, informational websites, or personal interviews. Regardless of what combination of types of sources you choose to use, all sources must be vetted, and you must be able to defend why each source is valid, credible, and reliable.
Format:
Your annotated bibliography should include the following components:
Title of Proposed Research Paper: This should be centered at the top of the first page. It should not read “Annotated Bibliography.” Instead, use the title of the research paper that you have not yet written.
Project Description: Write a one-paragraph description of your proposed research paper. This description should include all the relevant details: what you are researching, what your argument will be, and how you will make that argument.
Citations/Annotations: For each of your ten sources (see above), you will write one citation/annotation. This means that you will document the source in correct MLA format, then write a paragraph about the source. That paragraph should include the following information:
A summary of the source’s main point(s). If only a part of the source is relevant to your paper, make sure that you summarize the source as a whole, then include information about the content of the part you will be using in your paper.
An explanation of how this source relates to your paper. How will you use it in the paper and/or what part of the paper will it support?
An evaluation of why this is a “good” source—i.e. why is it valid, credible, and reliable?Grading:
Annotated Bibliographies will be graded based on the final criteria:
Project Description: Does the project description explain what the research argument paper will be about? Does it relate to the sources presented in the Annotated Bibliography?
Following Instructions: This is a highly organized genre. Does your paper follow each of my instructions above to the letter?
Citation: Does the paper use correct MLA citation?
Quantity/Quality of Sources: Did you use the correct number of sources and do you have the correct number from each “category” of source? Did the author use good judgment in choosing sources? Are there any gaps in his/her research?
Paragraph Descriptions of Sources: Does the author follow the instructions above? Does the author demonstrate that s/he has read the source and understands it?General Writing Skills: Are you using good English? Is your writing understandable and easy to read?
