Module 1: This is Geography
Option One: Describe and provide examples of each of the three kinds of regions that geographers identify.
Option Two: Geographers have found that inequality by gender can sometimes be mapped to show the ways different cultural groups use space. Give an example of how space and mobility differ between men and women. Apply geographic concepts of inequality to discuss choices made by men and women.
Module 2: Population & Health
Option One: List and explain 3 reasons why is poverty an exacerbating influence on the spread of infectious diseases. (Reasons may be over-lapping; please make sure your 3 causes are clearly identified and explained).
Option Two: The world’s two most populous countries, China and India, have adopted controversial policies to limit population growth. Discuss each approach and assess whether they were successful in both economic and social terms.
Module 3: Migration
Option One: Since WWII, which two regions are the origins for 75 percent of the U.S. immigrants? What global conditions led to this shift?
Option Two: Consider the size and importance of the Flow of Remittances. In your answer (a) define remittances (b) explain the importance and potential use of remittances in the receiving country and (c) identify and explain the possible downsides of dependence on remittances for the receiving economies.
Module 4: Language
Option One: Language is an example of the dynamic nature of culture. Define and describe the existence of informal or “new” languages, the role they play in societies, and places where you would expect to find them spoken.
Option Two: Explain how the physical environment is a factor used by researchers in determining the common origin of languages.
Module 5: Religion
Option One: Religions may incorporate natural features located near their hearth and other forces of nature into their cosmogony. In your answer
a) Define cosmogony.
b) Discuss how the cosmogony of a religion may influence attitudes towards the physical landscape.
c) Give two contrasting examples of cosmogony and briefly state the resulting impacts.
Option Two: Describe the main difference in the most important holidays between a universalizing and an ethnic religion.
