The reliance on fossil fuels, however, has made combustion the primary source of greenhouse gas emissions. As many countries are shifting to low carbon economy, decarbonization is required across entire energy sectors. Certain sectors are well underway in meeting the targets, such as power generation, whereas others are facing significant challenges, such as industry and transport. In this essay, you will study an energy sector of your choice that has major difficulty for decarbonization. You will survey the sector for the current status and identify technologies to fit this sector in a carbon-neutral future. The essay will be evaluated using the following criteria: 1. Describe the energy conversion process in the selected sector and explain why the process is difficult to decarbonize. 2. Identify technologies for GHG emission reduction in this sector and review the state-of-the art development of these technologies. 3.
